After a short break for Christmas we are back providing a varied program of events
for the boys and girls in Totley Scouts. We have five sections being Beavers, two Cub
packs, Scouts and Explorers.
Lissy our Beaver leader has been working hard with the beavers all year and has
awarded four more Chief Scout Bronze Awards before Christmas. This is the highest achievement awarded to beavers and takes a lot of commitment and work to fulfil all the requirements
necessary. So well done.
Whilst the winter months can mean most activities are indoors the Explorers are
particularly intrepid. So if you hear some strange noises coming from the woods on a
Friday evening it could just be the Explorers using the woods for an 'activity in the
dark'! This year the Explorers will be working towards their Chief Scout Platinum
We always need more adults to help with fun and exciting programmes for the
children. It is a rewarding hobby for the Leaders and regular parent helpers. Being a
warranted Leader is also very good for your CV. So let me know if you are interested.
Last year I told you that we are to get a new scout hut. Well we are progressing our
plans and working out building costs etc. We are also starting our fundraising. It is a
long process. Our Explorer section has entered a competition for a large prize towards
building a new hut. We are keeping our fingers crossed. We should know if we have
won by the end of January. We have a target to raise £200,000. It sounds a lot but
every donation helps. If you would like to make a donation please look for the 'Totley
Scout Group' page on the BT MyDonate charity donation site. All donations will be
gratefully received and help Totley get a new Scout Hut. In future articles I will
update you how much we have received and been promised.
Just as I was writing this article we had a very lucky escape with trees falling on our
Scout Hut due to the strong winds. As the pictures show it wasn't woodland trees but
trees from a neighbouring garden. Thankfully the neighbour was very prompt in
getting contractors in to chop the trees up. The luck was because the hut doesn't seem
to be damaged.
