Totley Scouts in the Westbourne Cup!

A huge well done to our team of Scouts who competed in the Westbourne Cup on Friday last week. For those who aren't familiar, this is one of the tougher Scout competitions that is run across our District and involves teams of scouts hiking in the dark for around 6 hours. They have to reach 8 bases, with the coordinates for the next base only being provided once they've completed an activity at the base.

Adam and Dave were the leaders from Totley 215th who were supporting the event and running one of the bases - a tricky taste test involving five concoctions, each one of which contained two ingredients that the teams had to identify. Banana and marmite, ginger and mango, garlic and vinegar, mustard and mint... there were some fairly entertaining reactions to behold! We did though give them a marshmallow to toast on the fire afterwards, to soothe their poor taste buds after the onslaught of flavours...

It was really fun to see the twinkling lights appear over the hill, and then send each team on their way to the next base. We even had a visit from the fire brigade wondering what we were doing on a windy hill with a fire lit (and I have to say we were quite proud of ourselves for getting that going in 30mph winds) - they were very impressed to hear about what the Scouts were doing.

As for our team from Totley 215th - we're really proud of how they did! They scored highly for the bases they completed, and despite not doing them all because of a couple of wrong turns and some poor luck (and so getting zero points for those bases), they still avoided being bottom in the rankings - so pretty good going. From all accounts they had quite an adventure!

Looking forward to competing again next year.
